Format · 1m³ & 2m³ Crates

Wholesale firewood in 1m³ and 2m³ hardwood crates.

Crates are the workhorse format of the European firewood trade — forklift-friendly, easy to price by volume, easy to resell straight from the yard. We supply 1m³ and 2m³ kiln-dried hardwood crates in birch, oak, ash and mixed species, full-load 40ft containers direct from Latvia.

1m³ crate

~1.20 x 1.00 x 1.00m, ~450–550 kg. 60–64 per 40ft container. Ideal for merchants and garden centres.

2m³ crate

Doubles the wood per crate at similar handling cost. 30–32 per 40ft container. Best for high-volume buyers.

Ready to Burn

Every crate kiln-dried below 20% moisture. Certification travels with each consignment.

Why the trade prefers crates

A crate is a single SKU, priced by volume, moved by a single forklift. That is why crates have become the default format for European merchants — one lift off the container, one place in the yard, one price on the ticket.

For customers, the crate itself becomes a display: an intact wall of split hardwood at the front of the yard sells more logs than any sign. Merchants often invoice by the crate direct to trade and private buyers.

1m³ vs 2m³ — which fits your operation

1m³ crates are the easier retail unit — they fit through most yard gates, sit neatly on garden-centre forecourts, and are the right size for a household order.

2m³ crates double the wood per lift and per stack footprint. They are the better economics for busy merchants, wholesale-to-trade buyers, and anyone with forklift access and a hard-standing yard.

Most containers ship a mix of both, plus retail bags and kindling, in a single 40ft load.

Species available in crates

Birch, oak, ash, alder, and hardwood mix. Single-species crates for buyers with clear product tiers; mixed hardwood crates for buyers who prefer one product code across their range.

Frequently asked

What are the outer dimensions of a 1m³ crate?+

Approximately 1.20 x 1.00 x 1.00m. Fits on a standard industrial pallet, loads two-high in a 40ft container.

How much does a 1m³ crate weigh?+

Kiln-dried hardwood at sub-20% moisture weighs about 450–550 kg per stacked m³, depending on species. Birch and alder sit at the lower end, oak and ash at the upper end.

How many crates in a 40ft container?+

60–64 x 1m³ crates on the floor, or 30–32 x 2m³ crates. Mixed loads (a mix of 1m³ and 2m³ crates plus retail bags) are common.

Can crates be reused?+

Yes. Our crates are built from graded softwood boards and designed to survive several rotations. Merchants often resell direct from the crate at the yard, then return or reuse the frame.
