A practical primer for merchants, DIY chains and forecourt buyers: what Ready to Burn actually requires, how container logistics work, what customs looks like after Brexit, and roughly what to expect on landed cost per m³.
Since May 2021, all firewood sold in England in volumes under 2m³ must be Ready to Burn certified — kiln-dried below 20% moisture. Scotland and Wales are following the same trajectory. Every Timberlink crate and bag is certified and stamped, so your stock is compliant the moment it lands.
We ship in 40ft high-cube containers via Riga → Rotterdam/Antwerp → UK ports (Felixstowe, Immingham, Grangemouth). Typical door-to-door transit is 10–14 days. One container fits 60–64 crates (1m³ or 2m³) or roughly 1,700–3,000 netted retail bags depending on size.
Firewood from Latvia enters the UK under commodity code 4401 with a phytosanitary certificate (PC). We handle the PC and export docs at our end; your UK forwarder or broker handles the import declaration. There is no tariff on kiln-dried firewood from the EU under the TCA.
Landed cost per m³ depends on species, port and current freight rates, but a full container of kiln-dried hardwood typically lands well below domestic UK log-yard buying prices — which is why merchants, DIY chains and forecourt suppliers import direct. We quote ex-works Latvia and CIF UK port on request.
Birch and oak sell as premium; ash and alder work as mid-tier or blend. Crates (1m³, 2m³) suit log yards and pallet delivery; 22L and 40L netted bags suit forecourts, garden centres and DIY multi-buys; kindling and 10kg briquette packs round out the range.
